Aharon Bennoah

For 40 years, The Artist Bennoah has been on a Journey of Discovery. A number of years ago, the simple act of seeing a rhinestone spider broach in a store window on an obscure Chicago street; led to the creation of a unique body of work which was a series of ideas and concepts which required the utilization of mixed media. This media included recycled wood, plastics, metals and discarded art objects.
From this experience, he was able to create many one-of-a-kind art works that were far reaching to a diverse audience. This distinctive form of expression is know to the art world as "ASSEMBLAGE"; which is based on a succession of designs and innovations which were very responsive to mixed media, such as up-cycled wood, plastics, thrift store jewlery finds and discarded art objects and found objects.
Early Work
In the 1980s Mr. Bennoah's work was centered around painting and craft projects. As time progressed, he began to identify with other artists and their work. He was particularly fascinated by the color schemes of Salvador Dali, the surrealism of Rene Magritte and the wonder of fantasy art which was done by artist designing covers for novels like Boris Vallejo.

The artist set forth with considerable effort to incorporate the styles of these three artist. The works created were quite colorful and appealing to the eyes of most who came in contact with them. The artist relocated to the city of Chicago in 1989. In a chance meeting he met the artist and curator Anthony Izzo, who was a painter of many beautiful works of art. They made plans to meet at Mr. Izzo's Printer's Row Gallery where Mr. Bennoah would show him his paintings.
At this meeting Mr. Izzo was taken with the works of Mr. Bennoah and offered him a space in an upcoming gallery opening he was hosting.
This first meeting between these two artist opened the door for Mr. Bennoah to show his work in other galleries across the city of Chicago. many of these showings took place in the Wicker Park and Logan Square areas of the city. He later branched out to do showing in the Lincoln Park, Edgewater and Rogers Park neighborhoods. The following works are those presented by Mr. Bennoah. In late 1999 Mr. Bennoah, seeing that entering into the world of art sales was difficult and was something to be done in addition to something else. Thus he went to his local Electrician's union hall and became an IBEW electrical Apprentice. He entered into a five year indenturement agreement With the Union to become a Journeyman Electrician. He did very little art in this time as the apprenticeship program was grueling for a 40+ year old man. Over the years Mr. Bennoah learned many skills that would later aide him in the development of his artistic endeavors.
Having two Year associate of science degrees in Component Electronics and Computer Aided Design and Mechanical Drawing and now another five year journeyman Electrician certification would not allow the artist to return to the world of simple painting in the arts. His mind would not allow him to return to simply painting. For years the idea of picking up a brush was repulsive to him. He It would not be until 2006 that the artist would again assume the mantle of artist. until them he lived the life of a blue collar working class guy.
